Gerry de Klerk was a respected businessman in the Netherlands and in
Canada. The Canadian businessman mingled with the politicians, presidents
and royal family. He was part of the high society in the Netherlands. But,
one day all of this changed.
The Dutch police claimed de Klerk had been embezzling money, and
defrauding companies and banks. He was investigated for years, arrested in
the United States, extradited back to Amsterdam and spent seven months in
jail. During the entire ordeal, de Klerk always claimed his innocence. De
Klerk even received a letter from an associate who wanted money from him
in order to help drop the case against him. Dutch policemen submitted
affidavits, sworn statements, parts of which are included in the book.
You will see what an innocent man goes through while everyone is against
him. You will see in this book, the ups, the downs, the tears, and the
joys of being found innocent and all charges cleared. You will read the
story of a man who has endured more than any good man should have to
endure during one life time. You will read the story of Gerry de Klerk, an
innocent man, now teaching us about the corruption with the legal system.
This is a true story that plays out like a movie. A wonderfully written
true account that you must read. If you think the justice system is
without faults, read this book!!!!
About the Author
Peter Smolders (born 1970) is an
experienced Dutch journalist specializing in investigating fraud. He is
also the producer of a popular Dutch television series entitled "Opgelicht",
(the Dutch word for "Defrauded") that exposes fraud. His style is incisive
and at times humorously sarcastic. Although sarcasm and humor are
difficult to translate, coauthor Gerry de Klerk has managed to transpose
Smolders' unique style into English.
Gerry de Klerk is the subject of this story. (Born in 1943 in the
Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada in 1967) It was through his ability
to convey and document the facts in this case that the book was given a
solid foundation. Smolders insisted that everything he wrote be backed up
with documentary evidence. De Klerk was a successful businessman before
this story and never envisioned himself as an author.
