Janet was born in Queens, New York in January of 1968, during the height and climax of the Civil Rights Movement. A product of what she likes to believe was love; she would come to have a great passion for the power of the spoken and written word to escape the challenges of her tumultuous upbringing. As a young scholar she absorbed herself in her studies, especially English.
By the time she attended Bronx Community College; she shined once again academically and received an associate's degree in electrical technology. However, sidetracked with dreams and aspirations of making a truckload of money as an electronics engineer, she transferred to City College and enrolled in the computer science program. After two semesters, she realized that that program wasn't for her and she went on to pursue her passion: books, reading, and writing.

Janet also enrolled in the publishing certificate program (PCP), by way of the CUNY Baccalaureate program, and finally felt at home. She would go on to receive a bachelor's degree in publishing and a master's degree in English. Currently, she is in the process putting together a variety of books while working as a Learning Specialist at a CUNY School.
