ISBN: 0-9749042-0-1
In Filson’s new book, The Leadership Talk, you will find an abundance of tips, advice, scenarios, and lessons that can help you become a better leader and motivator. The content of the book is not just steps or advice, it is life lessons that Mr. Filson and other business executives have experienced and overcame in their quest for extraordinary leadership skills. The books contains two sections: Concepts and Applications. These two sections are equally important in learning better leadership techniques.
In Section I: Concepts, the reader learns about the theory of leadership and motivation. What is motivation? Who does motivation? What animates motivation? What is the best way to motivate people? You will also be taught the Three-trigger Motivational Process (TMP). Needs, Belief, Action. In each section of the TMP you will be given lessons and practice to make you a better leader.
You will master the Eight Needs Questions.
What is changing for the audience
Whom would the audience rather have talking to them besides you?
What action does the audience want to take?
What does the audience feel?
What does the audience fear?
What is the audience’s major problem?
What makes the audience angry?
What does the audience dream?
By realizing the answers to these questions you will know your audience more and be better equipped to motivate them. You must make them believe in your talk and then take action.
In Section II: Application: You will be “Bringing It All Together”. Filson’s knowledge of leadership has come from trial and error throughout his own career. He has learned that every Leadership Talk must have at least one of the following elements:
Need
Validation
Logical Response
Defining Moment
Support
Action
He gives you examples of each of the elements and then gives you the Leadership Talk Process: Decide, Identify, Select, Flesh Out and Deliver. Also included is an easy to understand flow chart. With these steps you will be on your way to delivering a great Leadership Talk.
This wonderfully written book also includes various issues and the talk you can give, along with a glossary and outcomes. I have begun using Filson’s ideas and suggestions with my employees and my children. It is never too late to learn how to motivate and lead any group.
This book is not just for corporate executives or speakers, it is for anyone who needs a better approach at motivation or leading. Teachers, students, executives or the anyone interested in the Leadership Talk process would greatly benefit from reading this book.
Overall Review: 4 ½ stars.
